The sponsoring partner must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
The relationship must be genuine and continuing. Evidence of shared life, finances, social recognition and commitment to each other is required.
Must be legally married to the sponsor, or have been in a de facto relationship for at least 12 months (or hold a registered de facto relationship).
The sponsoring partner must be approved as a sponsor by the Department of Home Affairs. A person cannot sponsor more than one partner every 5 years (with limited exceptions).
Not strictly required, but each strengthens your case — the weight shown reflects how heavily our scoring engine (and in practice, adjudicators) value it.
Must meet Australian health requirements (medical examination) and character requirements (police clearances).
Valid Passport
Current valid passport for all applicants and family members.
Marriage Certificate (if married)
Official marriage certificate. If not in English, a certified translation is required.
De Facto Relationship Evidence (if de facto)
Evidence of cohabitation for at least 12 months: joint lease/mortgage, joint bank account, utility bills, statutory declarations from friends and family.
Relationship Photographs
Photos together at key events, travel, family gatherings across the relationship timeline.
Statutory Declarations from Witnesses
Signed statutory declarations from people who know you as a couple (family, friends, colleagues).
Financial Evidence of Shared Life
Joint bank account statements, shared bills, joint loan or mortgage documents, or evidence of financial interdependence.
Sponsor's Identity and Status Documents
Australian citizenship certificate or PR visa grant letter for the sponsoring partner.
Health Examination Results
HAP ID and completed health examination by an approved panel physician.
Police Clearance Certificates
Police clearances from all countries where you lived for 12+ months in the past 10 years.
