The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a federal pathway β jointly administered by IRCC and the four Atlantic provinces β that helps employers in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador hire skilled international workers and recent international graduates from Atlantic institutions.
Employer-First Model
Unlike most immigration programs, the AIP is employer-led: the employer must first be designated by their province before they can support an immigration application. Designated employers identify candidates from abroad or from within Canada, make a job offer, and then endorse the candidate's immigration application. There are no government-run draws or cut-off scores β eligible candidates with a valid job offer from a designated employer can apply at any time.
Three Eligible Categories
Settlement Plan Requirement
Unique to AIP, candidates must consult with a designated settlement service provider and develop an official Settlement Plan before their provincial endorsement is issued. This ensures newcomers are connected to services such as language training, employment support, and community integration.
Language and Experience
Processing after a complete application is typically within 6 months. AIP leads to full permanent residence.
