Verify that your occupation is listed in USMCA Appendix 2 and that you hold the required educational or professional credentials for that occupation. Some occupations have specific degree or license requirements.
Get a detailed letter from your US employer describing the position, your qualifications, the USMCA occupation category, and the terms of employment (including that you are being hired in professional capacity).
Canadians: present documents at a US land border crossing or airport preclearance location. No visa required. Mexicans: schedule a TN visa interview at a US Embassy or Consulate and apply for a TN visa stamp.
Upon approval, the CBP officer or consular officer admits you in TN status for up to 3 years. Your I-94 record confirms your TN status. Begin work for the specific employer on the granted start date.
TN may be extended indefinitely in 3-year increments. Canadians may re-enter at a port of entry with updated employer letter. Both nationalities may file I-129 with USCIS for an extension.
